I belong to nextdoor, an app that connects people in the same neighbourhood. In my naivety I thought it would be a good way to reconnect with the local community…that was before Covid-19 hit.

Of more recent times there has been A LOT of communication around how people SHOULD and SHOULD NOT behave in the age of Covid-19. Including calling the police over Easter regarding activity at the local church.

Today someone asked for a recommendation for a pattern maker. Joe (names have been changed to protect the innocent) replies “I can ask my mum, she is a pattern maker by trade – retired now, but I locked her up in quarantine – so might be up for some activities :)” I responded “Joe I’m guessing your mum is not happy about you locking her up.” Joe’s response…”Litsa I had to look her in the eyes and explain to her that if she leaves the house she will die.” As a also have a European mother, I burst out laughing. I laughed so hard I was literally crying.

It was nervous laughter, I haven’t been game to take that approach with my mother. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly innocent face.
